Today the technology is so advancing that you can hear without ears, yes, you read it right, through bone conducting technique you can hear things around you without really passing any sound into your ears. It can be your favorite music, call or notifications and even the sound around can be heard just passing the right waves into your bone.
Lets first understand how this technology works, basically in bone conducting instead of sound waves fed into ears the waves are bypassed and directly fed to cochlea(ear bone to transduce the sound waves into nerve signal which brain understands) through cheekbone in the form of vibrations. While the ears remain open for surrounding sound.
Now the question is, does this technology really necessary? does it really replace the current earphone concept in the market? It depends on where this technology falls, whether it is more towards cons or towards pros, and also how best it fulfill its purpose of invention and how end-user/market accept it. The working principle was invented mainly for hearing impaired people, but now it is becoming one of the feature in headphones/earphones. Is this marketing stunt or really a space creating in tech market, all depends on user buying pattern.
We will try to understand the cons of this technology, even this impact the product success. Bone conducting headphones deliver low quality sound if not placed properly on cheekbone skin and cost wise the products are more costly than the regular earphones. And can be mixed response from users hearing both headphone sound and outside sound through ears at a time.
In current market we have countable brands delivering the bone conducting features in their headphones/earphones. We tried to recommend few below,
