Most people believe cancer is a disease that works like all other common diseases and it is incurable, but fact is, it happens due to genetic mutation that takes place in body. The mutation can occur at any part of body. We all know human body is made up of billions of cells. Some similar functioning cells form organs and they do die and grow millions of times daily. The generation of new cells is controlled by genes, and the mutation of these genes give rise to uncontrolled cells growth which hinder the normal functioning of the body. And further growth of these cells effect surrounding normal cells and later stages form tumors, which is considered as Cancer.
What causes genetic mutation? There are many answers for this question. The major cause for the mutation that causes cancer is smoking, alcohol intake, practicing wrong lifestyles and rarely caused due to hereditary and infections that lead to cancer. We have top medical facility, advanced research labs but still why we have not found a drug that cures cancer? This thought comes in every common person’s mind, but technically cancer is not a unique disease to investigate and find cure, as said above Cancer is caused due to genetic mutation that happens with normal cells of body. No two Cancers are found same even if they occur at same location of body this is due to different mutation signatures. This makes more complex to find a unique drug or procedure that control or cure cancer. Currently there are common treatments for most kind of cancers, those effect normal cells as well during the process, and sometimes the treatment goes unaffected to the rogue cells causing cancer. To treat those cells, better understanding of mutation that caused those cancer cells, is required. A new promising approach helping to investigate and understand the genetic mutation that causing cancer cells, the concept is Genome sequencing. This helps doctors to develop personalized treatments, drug combinations those stops or kills the growth of cancer cells. Genome Sequencing requires lot of data to be studied, and high-performance computing systems. A single Cancer patient’s biological study produces terabytes of data, which is enormous of data when we consider all Cancer patients around the world. Samples of patient’s data, in the recent research has shown promising positive result. In near future, Big data analytics plays a vital role in analyzing patient’s huge genetic data that helps doctors to control, stop and kill Cancer cells.
